Oil cleanliness plays a critical role in the performance and reliability of industrial equipment. Oils with high levels of contamination, as well as those that have reached the end of their use cycle can damage system components, such as pumps, actuators, or servo valves, leading to shorter maintenance intervals, added downtime, and increased costs.
The Parker Oilcheck is a hand-held and battery-powered condition monitoring device that enables service personnel to quickly, easily, and cost-effectively measure the quality and suitability of the oil being used in their vehicle and/or equipment. The device serves an invaluable diagnostic tool for fleet owners, automotive service personnel, and mechanics, and removes the need for costly and often time consuming laboratory analysis of mineral and synthetic oils used in engines, gearboxes, and bearing lubrication systems.
The Oilcheck works by measuring the dielectric constant difference of a new test fluid (i.e., unused oil). Users simply place a sample of the oil in sensor well and press the “TEST” button, which zeroes the device. Once cleaned out with a degreaser and replaced by a used oil sample, a new reading is obtained on the LCD display for comparison. The quality of the used oil is then visually indicated to the user via the green/amber/red efficiency scale. Significant changes in the dielectric constant indicate to service personnel and engineers that the oil needs to replaced, thereby protecting internal components from damage and extending engine life. The Oilcheck is capable of detecting changes in the fluid condition brought about by the ingress of water, solid particulate matter, metallic content, and oxidation.
